Ray J returned to the stage over Valentine’s Day weekend following a recent health scare, but fans were quick to notice a detail that reignited concern about his recovery.

The 45-year-old singer performed in Shreveport appearing energetic and in good spirits. However, clips shared on social media showed what looked like a dark red streak running from beneath his sunglasses down his cheek. At one point during the performance, he also unzipped his outfit to reveal a medical patch on the left side of his chest.

The footage quickly went viral, with viewers questioning whether the performer may still be experiencing health complications.

Recent health scare

Earlier this year, Ray J revealed he had been hospitalised with pneumonia and heart-related issues. In a livestream, he said doctors had warned him about the seriousness of his condition, adding that his heart had been functioning at 25 percent at one stage.

While he appeared stable during the Valentine’s Day show, the visible signs prompted renewed discussion about whether he is fully recovered.

What could the symptoms indicate?

Medical professionals say a sudden red streak or bloodshot appearance in the eye is often caused by a subconjunctival haemorrhage, which occurs when a small blood vessel breaks beneath the clear surface of the eye.

Such bleeding can be triggered by severe coughing, strain or sudden pressure changes. For individuals taking blood-thinning medication, even minor exertion can make the bleeding more noticeable. In many cases, the condition resolves on its own within one to two weeks.

The chest patch seen during the performance appeared consistent with a wearable cardiac monitor. Devices such as ambulatory ECG monitors are commonly used to track heart rhythm over several days, particularly after heart-related complications.

Studies show that recovery from respiratory infections combined with cardiac stress can result in prolonged fatigue and circulatory imbalance, even after visible improvement.

Ongoing recovery

Although the visuals alarmed some fans, there is no indication of an immediate emergency. The signs may reflect continued medical monitoring as Ray J gradually resumes normal activity.
