Ray J says he almost died as his heart drops to 25 percent

Ray J has revealed he almost died during a recent hospitalisation, saying doctors told him his heart is now functioning at just 25 percent following a severe bout of pneumonia.

The singer and reality television star shared the update in a video posted on Instagram on January 25, explaining that his health remains fragile after being admitted to hospital earlier this month.

Ray J said he was left fighting for his life and credited prayers and support from loved ones for pulling through. He told fans that he must stay focused and continue prioritising his health as he recovers.

The 45-year-old also thanked those who supported him during the ordeal, including his sister Brandy and Love Cabin castmate Shila Hasanoff, who he said stayed with him while he was in hospital.

This was not Ray J’s first experience with pneumonia. He was previously hospitalised for the lung infection in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic and said at the time that he believed he might not survive, despite testing negative for the virus.

The health scare comes amid ongoing personal challenges, including his divorce from Princess Love. The former couple share two children, a daughter and a son.

They announced their latest separation in 2024 after a previous divorce filing was dismissed. Princess Love said the decision followed reflection, discussion and counselling, adding that they remain committed to co-parenting their children.

Ray J said he is continuing to recover while focusing on his health following the hospitalisation.
