Reds host Rockies in series decider as Lorenzen faces former team

CINCINNATI: The Cincinnati Reds will host the Colorado Rockies in the rubber match of a three-game series at Great American Ball Park on Thursday, with both teams eyeing a series win.

The Reds will face a familiar pitcher as Rockies right-hander Michael Lorenzen (2-2, 5.97 ERA) takes the mound. Lorenzen spent the first seven seasons (2015–21) of his career with Cincinnati, but will now be aiming to lead Colorado to victory against his former side.

The Rockies head into the clash with confidence after a commanding 13-2 win on Wednesday, bouncing back from a 7-2 defeat in the series opener. Hunter Goodman starred with two home runs and three RBIs, while Brett Sullivan contributed with three hits, including two doubles, and also drove in three runs.

Cincinnati, meanwhile, had won eight of its previous 10 games before suffering Wednesday’s setback and will be looking to respond strongly in the decider.

Lorenzen is coming off one of his best performances this season, having allowed just one run over seven innings in a 4-3 victory over the New York Mets last week. His experience and familiarity with the Reds lineup could prove crucial for Colorado.

On the other hand, the Reds are expected to rely on left-hander Andrew Abbott, who has struggled for consistency in recent outings. Cincinnati will hope for an improved showing from their pitcher as they aim to secure the series on home soil.

With both teams evenly poised, Thursday’s encounter promises a competitive battle as the Reds and Rockies fight to clinch the series.
