Reporting on CPEC: media asked to keep national interest paramount

ISLAMABAD: In the backdrop of evolving Pakistan-China relations and a decade of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a comprehensive national training workshop on media coverage related to these ties was held at a local hotel in Islamabad.

Organized under the auspices of Indus Broadcasting and Communication, the two-day training workshop also saw participation of journalists from across the country.

The workshop featured prominent figures such as Caretaker Information Minister Murtaza Solangi; former ambassador Naghmana Hashmi; former advisor on national security Dr Moeed Yusuf; Caretaker Minister for Industry and Commerce and Technical Education in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Dr Aamir Abdullah; Communication Strategist Reema Shaukat; Director of Pakistan Institute of China Studies Dr Fazulur Rehman and senior journalist Shahid Rind, among others.

During the workshop, Murtaza Solangi emphasized that media, while reporting on Pakistan-China relations, should consider national interests significantly. He pointed out that CPEC initiatives are under way in the caretaker government, and both countries are fostering collaboration.

Former ambassador Naghmana Hashmi underscored the importance of historical context and accurate information when reporting on Pakistan-China relations.

Dr Moeed Yusuf informed the participants about economic and security challenges, shedding light on key points of national security policy. He stressed that allowing consultations for elections is a fundamental right.

Dr Aamir Abdullah discussed the progress on the establishment of Rashakai Economic Zone under CPEC and its economic and security challenges.

Reema Shaukat highlighted community improvement projects in Gwadar supported by China.

Dr Fazalur Rehman delved into China’s policy formulation, bilateral relations, ongoing challenges, and media coverage, sharing crucial insights with the participants.

Journalist Shahid Rind discussed the significance of CPEC in Balochistan and the challenges faced by local economies.

Associated Press of Pakistan’s China News Desk journalist Bushra Nazir briefed participants about the establishment, objectives, and current activities of the China News Desk in APP.

The workshop aimed to enhance understanding among journalists about the multifaceted aspects of Pakistan-China relations, CPEC initiatives, and challenges faced by local communities.
