Restaurant owner arrested for direct theft as prosecution succeeds and raids continue

SSGC continued to tighten its grip on the menace of gas theft with continuous raids and prosecution successes in the court of law. A joint raid was conducted by SSGC’s Technical teams and SSGC Police in a restaurant in Karachi’s Malir District, following which its owner Abdul Waheed was arrested for stealing gas directly for commercial purpose. The Special Judge Gas Utility Court also convicted Mehboob Ahmed, who was found stealing gas for commercial purpose of generating electricity. He has paid Rs. 375,000 as quantum of loss to SSGC, whereas, the court has also imposed a Rs. 10,000 fine on him. The same court had also charged Muhammad Ashraf for stealing gas for commercial purposes directly from the Company’s main service line. Once the culprit was convicted of the charge, he paid Rs. 308,000 as quantum of loss to SSGC while an additional fine of Rs. 10,000/- was also imposed by the Court.
Meanwhile, the Theft Control Team of Customer Relations Department went full throttle against gas theft miscreants in Karachi’s Malir, North Karachi, Nazimabad and, PECHS and removed 75 illegal connections whereby the residents had extended gas from existing meter and service points through rubber pipes. Concerned raiding parties in Quetta, Nawabshah and Larkana cracked down on residents stealing gas through underground and overhead theft clamps and removed more than 35 illegal connections. Theft claims are being raised.
