Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has decided to suspend all discounts previously offered to a range of passengers, including students, senior citizens, journalists, retired military personnel, and Airport Security Force (ASF) staff. The airline administration has reportedly issued instructions to all airport staff to enforce the new policy immediately.
A PIA spokesperson confirmed the decision, noting that it is a temporary measure that will remain in place until jet fuel prices stabilise. The spokesperson explained that the airline is currently facing severe financial pressure due to the rising cost of jet fuel, which has significantly increased operational expenses.
“PIA has withdrawn all types of discounts until fuel prices return to normal,” the spokesperson said. “This decision has been taken to ensure that the airline can maintain operations while managing the rising costs of aviation fuel.”
Industry analysts note that rising global fuel prices have put additional pressure on airlines worldwide, with Pakistan’s national carrier being no exception. PIA officials said that the move is not permanent and that the airline hopes to restore the benefits to all eligible groups as soon as economic conditions allow.
