Robbers kill kidnapped policeman in Kacha area

RAHIM YAR KHAN: A policeman who was kidnapped by robbers in the Kacha area of Rahim Yar Khan a few days ago was killed by his captors, police said on Thursday.

The robbers also snatched two armored police vehicles after a fierce gunfight with the law enforcers in the Machchaka area.

The slain policeman was identified as Ghulam Hussain, who was among the police personnel deployed to conduct an operation against the robbers in the Kacha area. His body was recovered by the police after a swap with the body of a robber, sources said.

The operation, which started a few days ago, has resulted in the deaths of nine people so far, including three policemen and six local residents. The robbers have been hiding in the dense forests and riverine areas of the Kacha area, which borders Sindh province.

Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi took notice of the situation and ordered a comprehensive operation to eliminate the robbers and their support networks. He also visited Rahim Yar Khan on Thursday and chaired a high-level meeting at the airport to review the progress of the operation.

Naqvi praised the bravery and professionalism of the police and said that they had successfully repulsed the attack by the robbers, who had initiated the violence as an act of revenge against another group. He said that the operation would continue until the area was cleared of all criminal elements.

He also expressed his condolences to the families of the martyred policemen and the local residents and assured them of the government’s full support.

He said that the government would provide compensation and assistance to the affected people and ensure their safety and security.
