NEW DELHI: In a strategic move aimed at securing India’s future cricketing success, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that Rohit Sharma will continue as the captain for both the ODI and Test teams.
This decision, announced by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, sets the stage for India’s next big targets —the Champions Trophy and the World Test Championship.
“Rohit Sharma will lead our ODI and Test teams with the primary goal of winning the Champions Trophy and the World Test Championship,” Jay Shah declared. He expressed unwavering confidence in Sharma’s ability to guide the team to victory in these prestigious tournaments.
A Year of Significant Achievements
Over the past year, India has thrived under Sharma’s leadership, reaching three major finals. Notably, the team clinched the T20 World Cup, a triumph achieved with the combined efforts of coach Rahul Dravid, captain Rohit Sharma, and key players Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja. India secured their second T20 World Cup 2024 title by defeating South Africa in a thrilling final.
Transitions and Farewells
The T20 World Cup marked the end of an era for Indian cricket. It was the last event with Rahul Dravid as head coach, and following the final, veterans Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from T20 internationals.
