Romania ambassador Dan Stoenescu meets CM Murad Ali Shah to deepen economic cooperation

KARACHI: Romania’s ambassador Dan Stoenescu called on Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Tuesday to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, education, energy, and culture.

According to a statement issued by the Sindh government, Stoenescu expressed on the Romania’s interest in strengthening collaboration with Sindh in key sectors including industrial manufacturing, textiles, food processing, information technology, and renewable energy.

The envoy proposed establishing a Romania–Sindh Economic Dialogue Platform to connect Romanian stakeholders with business chambers across Sindh and to encourage Romania’s participation in the province’s Special Economic Zones.

The meeting also touched upon avenues for cooperation in wind and solar power projects, particularly in the Jhimpir Corridor, as well as agriculture and agro-industry. These initiatives are expected to be advanced further in upcoming MoUs between Constanța Port and Karachi Port, according to Radio Pakistan.

Both sides discussed the potential establishment of a private Romanian university campus in Karachi, offering academic programmes and scholarship opportunities to Pakistani students, APP reported adding that the ambassador expressed his state’s willingness to share EU-aligned expertise in good governance, urban planning, and digital administration.

The ambassador added that Romania also plans to participate in the World Culture Festival taking place from Oct 30 through Dec 7 in Karachi.

The discussions also covered cooperation in water management, climate resilience and sustainable urban development. Romania shared expertise drawn from its management of the Danube River Basin. The two sides further explored potential EU-funded initiatives in disaster response, women’s rights and the health sector.

Ambassador Stoenescu further conveyed Romania’s intention to send a business delegation to Sindh next year to follow up on the initiatives discussed.
