Russia boosts Iran’s military arsenal with drones and satellite intelligence, report claims

WEB DESK: Moscow has reportedly commenced the transfer of advanced drones and critical satellite intelligence to Tehran, marking a significant escalation in military cooperation between the two powers as regional tensions continue to simmer.

According to Western security officials cited by the Financial Times, the Kremlin has moved beyond diplomatic rhetoric to provide active battlefield support, including targeting data and aerospace imagery designed to help Iran monitor U.S. and Israeli assets across the Middle East.

A strategic exchange in the Caspian

The burgeoning alliance appears to be a “quid pro quo” arrangement following years of Iranian drone supplies to Russia for its campaign in Ukraine.

Intelligence assessments suggest that the current shipments include the Geran-2 a Russian-enhanced variant of the Shahed-136 which features upgraded navigation and anti-jamming suites that Tehran is reportedly keen to reverse-engineer.

While the Kremlin has dismissed these reports as “fakes,” the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) have reportedly already taken kinetic action to disrupt these supply lines, targeting maritime routes in the Caspian Sea used for the hardware transfers.

Despite the influx of equipment, Moscow has reportedly drawn a firm line at Tehran’s request for the sophisticated S-400 air defence system, opting instead to provide man-portable Verba missiles to avoid a total collapse of its remaining backchannels with Washington.
