SA vs ZIM: Brevis leads clinical chase as Proteas seal win

South Africa produced a composed run chase to overhaul Zimbabwe’s competitive 153-7, securing a five-wicket victory with 13 balls to spare in their T20 World Cup encounter. The Proteas were powered by a fluent knock from Dewald Brevis, whose 42 off just 18 deliveries set the tone for a confident pursuit.

Zimbabwe, after being put into bat, posted a respectable total built around a superb innings from Sikandar Raza. The all-rounder anchored the innings with 73 off 43 balls, mixing aggression with control to guide his side past the 150 mark. Contributions from Clive Madande (unbeaten 26) added late momentum, but the rest of the batting lineup struggled to fully capitalise against disciplined South African bowling.

Raza wasn’t done there. With the ball, he delivered an outstanding spell, claiming 3-29 and briefly raising hopes of a Zimbabwean upset. However, South Africa’s batting depth proved decisive.

The chase began with intent, and Brevis quickly seized control. His explosive stroke play dismantled the Zimbabwean attack, ensuring the required rate never became a concern. Supported by Ryan Rickelton (31) and a steady finish from George Linde (30*), South Africa kept the scoreboard ticking smoothly.

Despite Raza’s all-round brilliance, Zimbabwe couldn’t find enough breakthroughs to derail the chase. South Africa’s calm approach under pressure highlighted their batting strength and adaptability.

In the end, it was Brevis’s fearless innings that stood out, guiding the Proteas to a convincing win and reinforcing their credentials in the tournament.
