AHMEDABAD: Former Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has offered his insights into the potential semifinalists in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023. Despite Pakistan’s high rankings, Tendulkar surprisingly does not foresee them advancing to the semifinals.
During the event’s inauguration, where Tendulkar ceremoniously presented the World Cup trophy on the field, he shared his predictions for the semifinal stage. Drawing from his extensive cricketing experience, Tendulkar envisions India emulating their historic 2011 performance on home turf.
“I hope so, because our team is playing good cricket, and if the team continues to keep things simple and stick to basics, they have the ammunition,” remarked Tendulkar confidently.
Tendulkar also placed his bets on Australia, highlighting their well-rounded and skillful squad. He believes Australia stands a strong chance of reaching the semifinals.
“Similarly, Australia has a balanced team,” he added emphatically.
Furthermore, Tendulkar identified England as another formidable contender for a semifinal berth.
“The third one I would say would be England. England again are a very strong team, a combination of experience and some new faces,” he commented.
Finally, Tendulkar predicted New Zealand as his fourth semifinalist choice.
“My fourth team would be New Zealand. They have reached the finals in 2015 and 2019. Looking at their track record, New Zealand has consistently performed well in world championships, and I see them making it to the semis,” Tendulkar concluded.
