Sacramento Kings to retain Doug Christie as head coach for 2026–27 season

CALIFORNIA: The Sacramento Kings are expected to retain Doug Christie as their head coach for the 2026–27 season. Christie is currently completing the first season of a three-year contract he signed on May 1, with two years reportedly guaranteed at around $2 million per year, according to multiple media reports.

Christie was appointed interim head coach on December 27, 2024, after Mike Brown was dismissed, and the interim tag was later removed when he officially signed the contract, reports said.

The Kings enter the final day of the regular season with a 22–59 record, tied for the worst in the Western Conference and among the bottom teams in the NBA.

A former Kings guard, Christie played five seasons in Sacramento during his 15-year NBA career, appearing in 355 games for the franchise. As a player, he averaged 10.6 points, 4.3 assists, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game with the Kings. As head coach, he has compiled a 49–83 record with the team so far.
