Salman Mirza issues legal notice over ‘defamatory’ TV report

LAHORE: Pakistan fast bowler Salman Mirza has taken legal action against a private television channel and one of its journalists, issuing a notice for allegedly broadcasting a defamatory and false report.

The notice, shared by Mirza on social media, demands that the channel and the reporter apologise publicly and remove the story from all platforms. The cricketer has warned that if these demands are not met within seven days, he will pursue further legal action.

The controversy arose after the TV channel aired a report alleging that Mirza misbehaved with a woman at a hotel in Kandy during the T20 World Cup. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) immediately rejected the report, calling it unverified and misleading.

The board criticised the channel’s coverage as malicious and irresponsible journalism and said it reserves the right to take action against those responsible.

Mirza’s move underscores the growing concern among public figures in Pakistan over false or misleading media reports and their potential impact on reputation.
