WEB DESK: US Senator Bernie Sanders has launched a scathing attack on Donald Trump’s recent social media commentary regarding the conflict in Iran, describing the former President’s remarks as the “ravings of a dangerous and mentally unbalanced individual”.
The veteran Vermont politician took to X (formerly Twitter) on Easter Sunday to express his alarm over the escalating rhetoric, which comes just one month after the initiation of hostilities in the region.
Sanders, a prominent voice on the American left, suggested that the nature of the communication was fundamentally unfit for a Commander-in-Chief, particularly during a period of active military engagement.
“One month after starting the war in Iran, this is the statement of the President of the United States on Easter Sunday,” Sanders posted, highlighting what he perceives as a lack of presidential decorum and stability.
A growing call for congressional intervention
In his digital broadside, Senator Sanders did not merely limit his critique to Trump’s temperament but also issued an urgent plea for legislative action to halt the ongoing violence.
He insisted that the responsibility now lies with the legislative branch to curb the executive’s power, stating, “Congress has got to act now. End this war.”
This demand reflects a growing friction within Washington over war powers and the constitutional authority to sustain prolonged military operations without explicit, updated mandates.
As the situation in the Middle East remains volatile, Sanders’ remarks signal a hardening of the opposition against the administration’s foreign policy, framed by a concern that the current leadership’s unpredictability poses a systemic risk to national security.
