Romantasy author Sarah J. Maas has confirmed that two new instalments in her bestselling A Court of Thorns and Roses series are on the way, ending years of speculation among fans.
Speaking during an appearance on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast, Maas revealed that ACOTAR book 6 will be released on October 27, with a seventh novel arriving shortly after on January 12.
The announcement marks the first major update since the release of A Court of Silver Flames in 2021, the most recent book in the hugely popular fantasy romance saga known to readers simply as ACOTAR.
ACOTAR book 6 release date finally revealed
Maas said the upcoming story became far larger than she initially expected while writing.
“It’s just the story that was finally ready to come out of me was big, really, really big,” she said during the podcast interview.
According to the author, the narrative will unfold across four parts. The first section will become ACOTAR book 6, while the second and third parts will make up the seventh instalment. A fourth section will be written later.
The reveal comes after months of intense online speculation about ACOTAR 6. In July, Maas shared a cryptic Instagram post suggesting the draft of the next novel had been completed, sending fans into a frenzy across BookTok and social media.
During a preview clip from the podcast, Cooper joked that the post had “quite literally lit the internet on fire” as readers tried to decode whether a symbol in the image hinted at the long-awaited sixth book.
Which character could lead ACOTAR 6?
The A Court of Thorns and Roses series, first published in 2015, currently includes five novels: A Court of Thorns and Roses, A Court of Mist and Fury, A Court of Wings and Ruin, A Court of Frost and Starlight, and A Court of Silver Flames.
Although Maas confirmed the ACOTAR 6 release date, she has not revealed the official title or which character will take centre stage.
Fans have long speculated that Elain Archeron could lead the next instalment after earlier books focused on her sisters Feyre and Nesta.
Maas has previously hinted that she began exploring Elain’s perspective while writing the fifth novel, even drawing inspiration from time spent gardening around her own home.
Looking further ahead, the author has also teased that the next book in her Crescent City series could feature a crossover set in the ACOTAR universe.
For now, confirmation of ACOTAR book 6 has already reignited excitement across the fandom, giving readers a long-awaited release window nearly five years after the last instalment.
