Saudi Arabia issues urgent departure deadline for Umrah and visit visa holders

WEB DESK: Umrah and visit visa holders currently in the holy city of Mecca have been issued an official directive to depart by 18 April 2026.

The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah clarified that this measure is part of the Kingdom’s annual protocol to streamline operations and ensure the safety of the millions expected to arrive for the upcoming Hajj season, according to 24 News.

Strict compliance for Hajj preparations

The Ministry emphasised that those on Umrah or various types of visit visas must conclude their pilgrimage and exit the city before the deadline to avoid legal repercussions.

This cut-off date is essential for the Saudi authorities to begin the rigorous logistical arrangements required for the Hajj pilgrimage.

Officials have noted that these visas do not permit holders to stay for the Hajj rituals, and staying beyond the stipulated period could result in hefty fines, deportation, or a temporary ban from re-entering the Kingdom.

Travel restrictions and enforcement

In tandem with the departure deadline, the Ministry of Interior has intensified its monitoring at all entry points to Mecca.

Security checkpoints will be strictly enforcing the permit system, ensuring that only those with valid Hajj permits or residency (Iqama) within the holy city are granted access after the 18 April threshold.

Travellers are advised to confirm their return flight bookings immediately and coordinate with their respective travel agencies to ensure they are clear of the city boundaries before the enforcement window begins.
