ISLAMABAD: The hearing for the case revolving around the auction of Toshakhana gifts in the Supreme Court was adjourned earlier today.

The focus has shifted to a new law concerning Toshakhana gifts, which is currently awaiting approval from the President.

A recent development in the matter came from the High Court, which declared that Toshakhana gifts should be considered public property. Justice Ejaz-ul-Ahsan emphasised that everyone should have the opportunity to participate in the auction of gifts owned by the public. This decision aligns with the constitution and legal framework, according to Justice Athar Minallah.

Under this framework, the highest bidder could potentially secure the purchase of these gifts. Justice Athar Minallah noted that this approach adheres to the law and principles.

The federal government is now in the process of deciding whether or not to proceed with an appeal against the Lahore High Court’s decision. Deputy Attorney General Malik Javed has requested time to seek instructions from the government on the matter.
