LAHORE: In a message addressing the prevailing uncertainty surrounding the status of educational institutions in Punjab, Inspector General Punjab, Dr Usman Anwar, clarified that schools, colleges, and universities in all cities of the province will not be closed.
Contrary to earlier reports circulating on various social media platforms and certain news outlets alleging a security threat leading to the closure of educational institutions from January 25 to January 29, 2024, IG Punjab’s recent announcement has dispelled these claims.
The Inspector General clarified that there is no security threat, and educational institutions will continue to operate as usual.
Speaking from Lahore, IG Punjab emphasised that no official instructions have been issued to close any school or college in Punjab.
Students in Punjab schools are expected to attend classes as usual, and the same holds true for college and university students across cities such as Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and Faisalabad.
He reassured the public that all educational facilities are open and functioning, with the police force providing necessary security measures.
Addressing the misinformation circulating on social media, Dr Usman Anwar termed it “fake news” and condemned the misuse of online platforms to spread baseless rumours.
He stressed the importance of responsible use of social media and warned that action would be taken against those found guilty of spreading false information.
Furthermore, IG Punjab asserted that the police force is actively ensuring the security of all schools and colleges in the region.
He concluded by emphasising the commitment to taking legal action against individuals involved in the misuse of social media platforms to create panic or disseminate false information.
The announcement from IG Punjab aims to quell any concerns among the public and assures that the educational institutions in Punjab cities will continue their operations without interruption.
