Second lady Usha Vance expecting fourth child

WEB DESK: Second Lady Usha Vance and Vice President JD Vance have announced that they are expecting their fourth child later this year.

In a joint statement shared on social media on Tuesday, the couple said they were “thrilled” to be welcoming a baby boy. They added that both Usha Vance and the baby are in good health and that the family is preparing for his arrival in late July.

The Vances are already parents to three children, Ewan, Vivek and Mirabel, who have frequently accompanied them during official travel within the United States and abroad.

The announcement marks the first time a serving second lady has been expecting a child while in office, though there is historical precedent among first ladies. Frances Cleveland gave birth to her daughter Esther at the White House in 1893 during her husband Grover Cleveland’s presidency, while Jacqueline Kennedy’s third child, Patrick Bouvier Kennedy, was born prematurely in 1963 and died two days later.

Describing the period ahead as both joyful and demanding, the Vances expressed appreciation for the care provided by military medical teams and their staff.

Usha Vance, 40, stepped away from her career as a prominent public-interest lawyer after her husband assumed office as vice president. Over the past year, she has regularly appeared alongside him at official engagements and has established a small staff while settling her family into residence at the Naval Observatory.

As second lady, she has focused on childhood literacy, launching a nationwide summer reading initiative last year. The couple is also expected to represent the United States at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan next month.
