RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi district administration has further extended the enforcement of Section 144 across the city, with the new deadline set for February 21.

According to an official notification, the restrictions have been extended for another 15 days to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incidents. Under Section 144, a complete ban will remain in place on public gatherings, rallies, demonstrations, and processions. Authorities have also prohibited the display of weapons and the use of loudspeakers during this period.

The notification was issued by Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Hassan Waqar Cheema, following recommendations from the District Intelligence Committee. Officials say the decision was taken as a precautionary measure in light of the current security situation, urging citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure public safety.

Violations of Section 144 may result in legal action under relevant laws, the administration warned.

METRO BUS SERVICE SUSPENDED IN TWIN CITIES

In a related development, the Metro Bus Service operating between Islamabad and Rawalpindi has been completely suspended, causing inconvenience for daily commuters.

Metro bus officials confirmed that services have been halted from Saddar Station to the Pak Secretariat on the directives of the district administration. Additionally, the electric bus service in Rawalpindi has also been suspended until further notice.

Authorities have not announced a timeline for the restoration of services, stating that operations will resume once the situation normalises. Commuters have been advised to make alternative travel arrangements and stay updated through official announcements.

The suspension of public transport, coupled with the extension of Section 144, indicates heightened administrative measures aimed at maintaining security and public order in the twin cities.
