QUETTA: The Balochistan Home Department has imposed Section 144 across the province, including the capital city Quetta, in a bid to maintain law and order amid growing security concerns. A notification issued on Sunday outlined a series of restrictions that will remain in force until November 30.
According to the notification, pillion riding on motorcycles has been banned throughout the province, though women and children will be exempted from this restriction. Authorities have also prohibited the wearing of face veils, masks, mufflers, or any other face coverings in public places, citing security reasons.
In addition, the use of unregistered motorcycles, dark glasses, and the display or carrying of weapons have been strictly banned. Public gatherings of five or more people, including sit-ins, rallies, and processions, will also not be permitted during the enforcement period.
The notification further enforces a complete ban on the transportation of explosives and sulphuric acid across the province. Deputy Commissioners have been instructed to submit daily implementation reports to the Home Department to ensure compliance.
Officials said that the decision was taken to safeguard public safety and prevent any untoward incidents amid intelligence reports suggesting potential threats to peace and stability in the region.
PUNJAB EXTENDS SECTION 144
The new restrictions in Balochistan come shortly after the Punjab government extended Section 144 for seven more days across its province, also citing heightened security threats and the need to maintain public order. Under Punjab’s order, all types of protests, gatherings, and display of weapons remain banned until November 15.
Authorities in both provinces have urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and adhere to the restrictions to help maintain peace and protect lives and property.
