The government of Punjab on Saturday imposed Section 144 across the province from September 13 to 17 amid security threats and concerns over public safety.
According to a notification issued by the Punjab Home Department, restrictions have been imposed on public gatherings in view of threats to public peace and the safety of lives and property.
Under the order, gatherings of five or more people at public places, roads and open spaces have been banned. Rallies, processions and other public gatherings will also remain prohibited during the period.
The notification also bans the carrying and display of all types of weapons across the province.
The restrictions, however, will not apply to wedding ceremonies, funeral prayers, burials and places of worship. Courts, government institutions, officially permitted events and security personnel have also been exempted.
According to intelligence reports, terrorist organisations are planning to target public gatherings, prompting the authorities to impose the restrictions as a precautionary security measure.
