Security and counter-terrorism measures discussed between President Zardari and Army Chief

RAWALPINDI: The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir held a meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari in Rawalpindi on Wednesday. The meeting focused on matters concerning the country’s security situation and ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.
During the meeting, the army chief congratulated Zardari for assuming the role of president and supreme commander of the Pakistan armed forces.

One of the key focal points of the discussion was the operations undertaken by the Pakistan army against terrorism. The army chief briefed Zardari on these operations. The army chief stated that the army was committed to effectively counter conventional threats and maintain peace and stability across Pakistan.
The meeting also shed light on the substantial contributions of the Pakistan army to developmental initiatives, particularly in regions such as Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
Zardari applauded the role played by the Pakistan armed forces in safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He praised the army’s efforts in preserving national security.
The president stated that Pakistan always took a hard stance against terrorism and that a comprehensive response utilising all available national resources was needed to counter terrorism in the country.
Zardari condemned baseless allegations aimed at undermining the military and its leadership. He vowed to take a hard stance against any “disruptive elements” undermining the institution.

The two leaders also honoured the sacrifices of the country’s martyrs. Zardari said the people of Pakistan held the martyrs in the highest regards and honoured the sacrifices of the martyrs and their families.
The meeting concluded with the two leaders vowing to uphold the principles of peace, security, and progress throughout Pakistan.
