PESHAWAR: In a significant development, the healthcare landscape in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is undergoing a transformation with the decision to restrict certain medical services on the provincial health card to government hospitals exclusively.

Amidst this shift, the insurance company responsible for administering the Sehat Card Scheme has issued a notification to all public and private hospitals on the panel, clarifying the revised guidelines.

Effective immediately, critical procedures such as C-section, angiography, and appendix treatment covered under the health card will now be exclusively performed at government hospitals, according to an official announcement made in Peshawar. Similarly, treatments for ailments like tonsils, stones, and conditions relating to the eye and nose will also be confined to government healthcare facilities, as per the declaration.

However, the remainder of the medical services listed under the health card scheme will continue to be available at both private and government hospitals, ensuring equitable access to essential healthcare across the province.

This move, though aimed at streamlining healthcare delivery and possibly reducing costs, has sparked discussions among stakeholders regarding its potential impact on patient choice and the broader healthcare ecosystem in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
