Senegal seeks probe after AFCON title stripped

DAKAR: Senegal has called for an international investigation after being stripped of its 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title, alleging suspected corruption within the Confederation of African Football.

The government on Wednesday condemned the decision by CAF’s appeals board, which ruled that Senegal had “forfeited” the final played in January after its players briefly left the pitch in protest during stoppage time.

The ruling overturned Senegal’s 1-0 extra-time victory and awarded a 3-0 default win to hosts Morocco.

In an official statement, Senegal described the decision as “grossly illegal and profoundly unjust” and demanded an independent international inquiry into what it termed suspected corruption within CAF’s leadership.

CAF did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
