Seven dead as speeding bus overturns near Karachi

KARACHI: At least seven people including children and women were killed and several others injured after a bus carrying picnickers overturned near the Maripur area of Karachi due to speeding.

Rescue officials said that the accident took place near the Maripur truck station. They said that four children and two women were among the dead.

The police confirmed that the high speed of the bus was the cause of the accident, as the victims were on their way to a picnic.

Eyewitnesses recounted that the accident was triggered when a trailer cut a curve, causing the high-speed bus to hit the pavement and overturn. The bus was carrying mostly women and children.

The victims were residents of Azizabad Banguria Goth, and all belonged to the same family.

According to the hospital administration, 14 individuals were injured in the accident, with seven of them in critical condition.

The bodies of the seven deceased were transferred to the trauma centre at Civil Hospital for medico-legal formalities. Subsequently, the victims were buried at the Sohrab Goth graveyard.
