PESHAWAR: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a heatwave alert for several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, warning of severe hot weather conditions from June 8 to 11.
According to PDMA, temperatures across most parts of the province are expected to remain 4 to 6 degrees Celsius above normal during this period.
In southern districts including Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Bannu, and Karak, temperatures may rise as high as 46°C.
Meanwhile, in Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi, and Haripur, the mercury is likely to reach around 45°C.
Authorities have been directed to establish heatstroke prevention centers and cooling points across vulnerable areas.
Rescue 1122 and fire brigade services have been placed on high alert to respond to any emergency situation.
The PDMA has also warned of possible dust storms and strong winds due to extreme heat conditions.
It further said that dry weather may increase pressure on water reservoirs, while rising temperatures could accelerate snowmelt in upper regions.
The public has been advised to avoid unnecessary exposure to sunlight and ensure adequate water intake during the heatwave period.
