Shadab Khan’s blazing half-century powers Falcons to five-wicket win over Knight Riders

NORTH SOUND: Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan produced a stunning all-round performance as Antigua and Barbuda Falcons defeated Trinbago Knight Riders by five wickets in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026.

Shadab first returned impressive figures of 1-8 from his four overs before smashing an unbeaten 52 off just 20 balls to take the Falcons over the line with nine balls to spare.

The victory at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium lifted the Falcons to the top of the CPL points table and maintained their perfect home record.

Chasing 166, the Falcons appeared to be in serious trouble at 92-5 early in the 14th over. Shadab then took charge, joining Kusal Perera to produce a match-winning partnership.

The pair added an unbeaten 76 from just 33 deliveries, completely turning the contest in the Falcons’ favour. Perera remained unbeaten on 34 off 24 balls, while Shadab’s explosive 52 included two fours and five sixes.

The defining moment came in the 18th over when Shadab took Nathan Edwards apart, smashing three sixes as the Falcons collected 27 runs from the over.

Edwards’ over also included two high full tosses above waist height, resulting in him being removed from the attack under the playing conditions.

With the equation reduced to 11 runs from the final two overs, Shadab finished the chase in style, hitting Terrance Hinds for two more sixes, including the winning blow that completed his 20-ball half-century.

The Falcons reached 168-5 in 18.3 overs to secure their second consecutive home victory.

Knight Riders post 165

Earlier, the Knight Riders made a flying start after being asked to bat, racing to 73-1 during the powerplay.

Colin Munro and Nicholas Pooran put the Falcons attack under pressure, with Munro scoring 46 from 33 balls and Pooran smashing 43 off only 17 deliveries.

Pooran’s innings included six fours and two sixes, while Munro struck two fours and four sixes.

The Falcons fought back after the powerplay, with Shadab playing a key role in slowing the scoring rate.

He dismissed Munro after the New Zealand batter had made 46, while Rahkeem Cornwall claimed two wickets and Joshua James also took two as the Knight Riders lost momentum.

Shadab completed his four-over spell with just eight runs conceded, an exceptional economy rate of 2.00 in a high-scoring T20 contest.

Trinbago eventually reached 165-6 from their 20 overs, with Terrance Hinds and Sunil Narine providing late runs to give their side a competitive total.

Shadab turns the game around

The Falcons’ chase initially failed to gather momentum after Rahkeem Cornwall’s brisk 14 from six balls was followed by a series of wickets.

Amir Jangoo offered some resistance with 31 from 36 balls, but his dismissal left the hosts at 80-4. Moeen Ali then fell for 11, leaving the Falcons at 92-5 and needing a substantial acceleration.

Shadab responded with exactly that.

After initially settling in alongside Perera, he began attacking the Knight Riders’ bowlers in the final five overs. The Falcons collected 24 runs from the 16th and 17th overs before Shadab’s assault on Edwards in the 18th effectively ended the contest.

His 52 came at a remarkable strike rate of 260, with five sixes and two fours.

Shadab was named Player of the Match for his decisive contribution with both bat and ball.

The result gave the Falcons back-to-back wins at home and moved them to the top of the CPL standings, while the Knight Riders suffered their second successive defeat.
