ISLAMABAD: Pakistan cricket team’s fast bowler Shaheen Afridi has said that “our collective aim is to win the remaining matches by a significant margin.”

In a statement, Shaheen Afridi extended his gratitude and admiration to his idol, Shahid Afridi.

Shaheen Afridi stated, “former captain Shahid Afridi has always offered me guidance. My efforts have been to create cricketing milestones like him. It is a matter of joy that we are achieving new honour for Pakistan.”

He mentioned that due to a few errors, including dropped catches, the team had to face consecutive losses, and the results could have been different with better fielding. The team made efforts to improve the run rate in the match against Bangladesh.

The national team’s fast bowler further emphasized, “Our collective aim is to win the remaining matches by a significant margin. Victories with substantial margins against New Zealand and England will pave the way for us to play in the semi-finals.”

It should be noted that Pakistan and New Zealand’s teams will face each other in Bengaluru on November 4. The winning team will stay in contention for the semi-finals, while the losing team will face additional challenges.

Shaheen Afridi has been the star of Pakistan’s bowling attack in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

The left-arm pacer has taken 16 wickets in seven matches, becoming the joint highest wicket-taker of the tournament along with Adam Zampa of Australia.

He also became the fastest Pakistani bowler to reach 100 ODI wickets, achieving the milestone in his 51st game against Bangladesh.

Afridi has shown his versatility and adaptability in different conditions, swinging the new ball when possible and hitting hard lengths when not.

He has also bowled well in the death overs, using his yorkers and slower balls effectively. He has been rewarded with a five-wicket haul against South Africa and three-wicket hauls against India, New Zealand and Bangladesh.

Afridi has been instrumental in Pakistan’s impressive run in the World Cup, helping them reach the semi-finals for the first time since 1999. He is also the new No 1 ranked ODI bowler in the world.
