ISLAMABAD: Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi suffered a minor injury ahead of the T20 match against Sri Lanka, casting doubt over his participation in the crucial game.
According to Pakistan Cricket Board officials, Shaheen sustained a minor injury to the fascial tissue in his foot and has been placed under the supervision of the medical team.
The statement said that the medical staff is closely monitoring his condition, and a final decision on his availability will be made after improvement in his health and medical clearance.
The PCB, however, did not specify how Afridi sustained the injury.
Team management said that the player’s fitness and complete recovery remain the top priority.
It is worth mentioning that in the opening match of the tri-series, Pakistan defeated Zimbabwe by five wickets, while Zimbabwe beat Sri Lanka in the second match.
Earlier, former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi, in an interview with a private news channel, dismissed speculations about engaging in any lobbying efforts for his son-in-law, Shaheen Shah Afridi, to become the captain of the Pakistan cricket team.
“I have never supported making Shaheen as captain. I also criticised the decision after he was made captain of PSL’s franchise Lahore Qalandars,” said Afridi
Afridi continued by saying, “Whose mouths should I shut? By reading things on social media, I’m just feeling regretful.”
