Sharjeel Memon claims PML-N uses dirty tactics after sensing ‘defeat’ in Kashmir polls

WEB DESK: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Sharjeel Memon said on Monday evening that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was resorting to “dirty tactics” after allegedly sensing defeat in the ongoing first phase of Kashmir elections taking place in Mirpur.

The senior Sindh minister said that the PML-N was attempting to disrupt the election atmosphere in Kashmir and create unrest as it feared losing public support.

Memon urged the PML-N leadership to control its workers, alleging that the party’s supporters were using pressure tactics and intimidation to influence the electoral process. He said elections could not be “stolen” through force or coercion.

The PPP leader also alleged that a PPP worker was killed by PML-N workers, claiming the incident reflected what he called the party’s “fascist approach.”

He further said the PML-N believed that people could be influenced through incentives, saying the party was attempting to secure what he termed a “charity mandate” in Kashmir, similar to 2014.

Memon criticised the Election Commission over what he described as silence on alleged violations of the election code of conduct, including claims of weapons being openly used by PML-N candidates.

He said the people of Kashmir were peaceful and aware of the political tactics being used, adding that the region’s peaceful environment would not be allowed to be disturbed.
