Sindh govt implements ban on sheesha and e-cigarettes

WEB DESK: In a significant move, the Sindh government has reportedly enacted a ban on the use of sheesha and e-cigarettes (vape) in public places across the province.

The decision is in line with the enforcement of the Prohibition of Smoking and Protection of Non-Smokers Health Ordinance 2002, and authorities have been instructed to ensure strict compliance.

The Sindh Health Department has issued directives to commissioners in various divisions, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, and Sukkur, to take immediate action in implementing the ban.

The prohibition extends to a range of public spaces, including hotels, restaurants, parks, cafes, and picnic spots.

Expressing concerns over the growing use of sheesha and e-cigarettes, authorities highlight these practices as a public nuisance.

Parents of teenagers are particularly affected, with concerns that the prevalence of these substances may disturb public peace.

Of notable concern is the surge in the consumption of pods and e-cigarettes among both young boys and girls. The increased accessibility of vapes and pods through numerous retail outlets has contributed to their widespread use.

These products, including e-cigarettes and various vaping juices, are readily available, raising alarm bells for health officials.

In response to these developments, the Sindh Health Department has directed authorities to rigorously enforce the ban and take necessary actions against individuals found violating it.

This move is aimed at curbing the rising trend of sheesha and e-cigarette consumption and safeguarding public health.

The ban signifies a proactive approach by the Sindh government to addressing the potential health risks associated with the use of sheesha and e-cigarettes, especially in public spaces frequented by diverse age groups.
