Sheikh Rasheed’s nominations from NA-56, NA-57 approved

RAWALPINDI:  An appellate tribunal on Thursday granted appeals of Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed against rejection of his nomination papers in two constituencies.

Appellate tribunal declared Returning Officers’ (RO) decisions as void and approved the nomination papers of Sheikh Rasheed for Rawalpindi’s National Assembly constituencies NA-56 and NA-57.

Notices issued on 171 appeals related to nomination papers

Earlier on Tuesday, the tribunal had approved the former federal minister’s appeal against nomination papers rejection for hearing. Appellate Tribunal Judge Mirza Waqas Rauf had issued notices to returning officers and fixed the hearing for today (January 4).

Sardar Abdul Raziq and Sardar Shehbaz appeared before the court on behalf of Sheikh Rasheed.

ROs rejecting the nomination papers had said that Sheikh Rasheed failed to provide complete details of his assets. “The value of his declared assets did not match his investments,” one RO said, adding “He did not declare his income from year 2021 to 2023 in assets papers”. – INP
