ISLAMABAD/KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a heatwave alert for Sindh, warning that temperatures in several districts could rise as high as 50 degrees Celsius in the coming days.

The Met Office said that a high-pressure system over upper Sindh was expected to intensify further from Tuesday, triggering moderate to severe heatwave conditions across most districts of the province until May 31.

According to the forecast, temperatures in Sukkur, Larkana and Dadu districts could range between 47 and 50 degrees Celsius.

In Tharparkar, Badin, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas and Jamshoro, temperatures are expected to remain between 44 and 47 degrees Celsius, the PMD said.

The weather department advised the public, particularly children, women and elderly people, to take precautionary measures during the extreme heat.

Farmers have been urged to manage crops and livestock carefully in line with prevailing weather conditions.

The PMD warned that electricity demand and consumption could rise during the heatwave and advised citizens to avoid unnecessary power usage.

Meanwhile, temperatures in Karachi are expected to remain between 34 and 36 degrees Celsius on Monday and Tuesday, rising slightly to between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.

The weather department said that southwesterly sea winds were likely to continue in the port city on Monday and Tuesday.
