ISLAMABAD: Authorities investigating suspicious letters sent to judges of the Supreme Court and high courts have made a significant breakthrough.
The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has reportedly received a forensic report confirming that the handwriting in letters sent to judges of the Supreme Court, Islamabad and Lahore high courts matches, Geo News reported.
The forensic analysis indicates that the handwriting in letters addressed to judges of all three courts originates from the same individual. The letters, signed under various names including Resham, Reshmaan, and Gulshad, were all posted from the same post office.
According to CTD sources, there is strong evidence suggesting a single mastermind behind the threatening letters sent to the judges.
The arsenic detected in the letters was also purchased by the same individual. Investigators are actively tracing the source of the arsenic with the help of CCTV footage obtained near the post boxes, in collaboration with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).
Earlier, the Islamabad Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) police station registered a first information report (FIR) regarding the threatening letters to Supreme Court judges on a complaint of in-charge of the Supreme Court’s Research and Investigation (R&I) branch.
The FIR has been registered under sections 7 and 507 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.
According to the FIR, regular mail containing four envelopes was received by the secretaries of the justices concerned.
