Sirajul Haq warns of knocking SC’s door if election date not announced

Sirajul Haq

ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami chief Sirajul Haq has said that if the Election Commission of Pakistan fails to promptly announce the election date, he will take the matter to the Supreme Court.

His statement comes amidst escalating tensions over the prolonged delay in setting the electoral schedule.

Sirajul Haq urged the caretaker government to collaboration with the ECP. Stressing the constitutional obligation of the government, he has urged for a transparent and timely announcement of the election date to ensure a smooth electoral process.

The JI chief accused the Pakistan Democratic Movement and the Pakistan People’s Party of ‘being part of a plot’ to postpone the elections, questioning the PPP’s shift in its position.

PTI to move SC in support of Alvi’s tweet on unsigned bills

“Having once participated as an equal stakeholder in the decision to postpone the elections, the party’s current issuance of statements critical of the delay has raised questions about its motivations behind this shift,” he said.

He said that President Arif Alvi’s recent tweet on the Army Act Amendment Bill and Official Secrets Act Amendment Bills have opened a new Pandora’s box and constitutional uncertainty.

He emphasised the Supreme Court’s role in resolving the ambiguity surrounding the controversy and dispelling the constitutional crisis that looms. He urged the apex court to intervene and provide much-needed clarity to the situation.
