Six arrested over Rs300 million gold heist at Karachi jewellery shop

KARACHI: Karachi police claimed to have  arrested six suspects, including the main accused, in connection with a burglary in which gold and diamonds worth around Rs300 million were stolen from a jewellery shop in Orangi Town.

According to police, the suspects broke through a wall of the shop in Iqbal Market and stole 606 tolas of gold and diamonds worth Rs2.5 million. A case was registered at Iqbal Town Police Station after the incident.

Shop owner Ayub Khan told police that workers had closed the shop as usual on the night of Feb. 12. When it was reopened on the morning of February 14, several jewellery boxes were found empty.

He said that after entering through the main shutter gate, he discovered that the rear wall of the shop had been broken. Upon checking the inventory, multiple boxes containing gold ornaments were missing. A hole in the back wall indicated the burglars had gained access by breaking through.

Police said that an investigation was launched immediately after the case was registered, and suspects were traced with the help of CCTV footage.

Within 48 hours, police arrested the main suspect along with five accomplices and recovered the stolen gold jewellery, mobile phones and other items.
