Six more judges appointed for hearing election appeals

LAHORE: Six more judges have been appointed for the hearing of appeals filed in the election tribunals at the Lahore High Court concerning the results of the elections held on February 8, 2024.
Following the approval of Lahore High Court Chief Justice Malik Shehzad Ahmad Khan, the high court registrar issued the notification for the appointment of judges.
According to the notification, three judges at the principal seat of the Lahore High Court will hear the election petitions. At the principal seat, Justice Shahid Karim, Justice Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal, and Justice Anwar Hussain will hear the appeals.
The notification further stated that Justice Asim Hafeez will hear appeals at the Lahore High Court Bahawalpur bench.
Additionally, Justice Raheel Kamran will hear appeals at the Multan bench, and Justice Mirza Waqas Rauf will hear appeals at the Rawalpindi bench.
It should be noted that prior to this, the Election Commission of Pakistan had established tribunals headed by Justice Sarfraz Muhammad Dogar and Justice Sultan Tanveer Ahmad in Punjab for the hearing of electoral grievances.
The ECP had issued a notification for the tribunal established for Punjab, stating that the election tribunals would decide on the electoral grievances within 180 days.
