RAWALPINDI: Reconstruction efforts at the Sixth Road Metro Bus Station are on track to conclude next month, marking a significant milestone in restoring essential transit services, as affirmed by Secretary of Transport Ahmed Javed Qazi.

The station, a casualty of PTI protesters’ actions on May 9, incurred damage estimated at Rs99 million.

While Faizabad, Shamsabad, and Committee Chowk stations along the Rawalpindi-Islamabad route faced partial damage during the protests, they continued to operate.

In contrast, the Sixth Road station has been non-functional for seven months.

During a recent inspection of construction progress at the Sixth Road Metro Station, Ahmed Javed Qazi expressed satisfaction with the rehabilitation pace. He announced the anticipated completion date of January 10, assuring that the station would soon be fully operational.

According to RDA Director General Saif Anwar Jappa the three other stations will be repaired in the second phase in December.

He said Rs34 million would be spent on the repair work on the partially damaged bus stations.

The closure of this vital station had forced commuters from the area to divert to Rehmanabad and Shamsabad stations, causing inconvenience for over 100,000 daily passengers benefiting from the Rawalpindi-Islamabad metro bus service.
