Sky Brown wins world park gold in rainy Brazil

Sky Brown became a two-time skateboarding world champion after winning gold in a rain-disrupted park event in São Paulo, Brazil.

Brown, who previously won the American TV programme Dancing with the Stars: Juniors, was the youngest athlete to join Britain’s skateboarding team. She was just 13 when she became Britain’s youngest Olympic medallist, winning a bronze at the delayed 2020 Summer Olympics.

Now 17, Brown was leading the event with a score of 88.16 on Sunday when organisers called off the final’s third run due to rain.

Japan’s Mizuho Hasegawa secured silver with 84.36, while American skateboarder Minna Stess claimed bronze with 83.90.

Speaking to World Skate, Brown said the level of competition was “crazy” and that she had put in a lot of effort to reach this point.

“But I am definitely bummed that we couldn’t fully complete the final,” she said.

“To win and be a world champion on International Women’s Day definitely means a lot, but there are bigger things going on. This feels huge and I am so thankful, but there are bigger things. I just pray for peace.”
