LAHORE: The provincial capital is grappling with an enduring environmental challenge as air pollution persists, securing the city’s position as the tenth most polluted in the world. The latest air quality index (AQI) report highlights concerning figures, with the city recording an overall AQI of 161.
Increasing Covid-19 variant cases raising concerns
The densely populated Manga Mandi area has emerged as a hotspot for heightened air pollution, registering the highest AQI at an alarming 240. The Shimla Pahari area recorded an AQI of 209, indicative of the widespread nature of the pollution across Lahore. The residents in these areas are grappling with deteriorating air quality, posing potential health risks.
Local authorities are under increasing pressure to implement measures aimed at curbing pollution levels and safeguarding the well-being of Lahore’s residents.
