Smog situation: LHC directs to issue work-from-home notification

LAHORE: In view of never ending smog situation, the Lahore High Court (LHC) Justice Shahid Karim Friday directed the Lahore district public prosecutor to issue the notification of two-day work from home.

He remarked it was the court order that schools should be closed on Saturdays but (the caretaker Punjab) government ignored his orders.

LHC Justice Shahid Karim asked the Lahore deputy commissioner’s council to take up the matter and issue notification of work from home on weekends within a week of business days.  

He also remarked that the Punjab government targets the trader community to hide its ‘incompetence’.

Smog situation in Lahore

Lahore has secured the disheartening rank of 4th among the 10 most polluted cities worldwide, according to recent air quality assessments.

The average air quality index (AQI) in Lahore has reached a worrisome 223, with the Shahrah-e-Azam area recording the highest AQI at a staggering 556.

Troublingly, prominent areas such as Garden Town, Shimla Pahari Chowk, and Ferozepur Road have been identified as among the most polluted in the city, underscoring the pervasive nature of the air quality crisis.

The Meteorological Department has forecasted a continuation of cold and dry weather for the next 48 hours in the city.

The maximum temperature is anticipated to hover around 21 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature has already plummeted to a chilly 8 degrees celsius.
