Snap checking resumed in Peshawar as militancy increases in KP

PESHAWAR: Security has been tightened across Peshawar and its surrounding areas amid rising militancy in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s southern districts, with snipers deployed at key checkpoints in Mattani, Hassan Khel, Badaber, Regi, Warsak, Aarmaar and other sensitive points bordering Khyber district.

Sources within the provincial administration say Peshawar Police will soon receive thermal technology to enhance surveillance and monitoring at critical locations. The deteriorating law and order situation has prompted security forces and police to resume special snap checking — a practice being revived after nearly five years.

Officials confirm that the Pakistan Army and police have intensified blockades and inspections to restrict the movement of criminal elements and ensure public safety. Security personnel are also maintaining strict vigilance along major highways and all entry and exit routes of the city.

Notably, the recent spike in militant attacks targeting law-enforcement agencies and police in KP’s southern belt has compelled authorities to enforce daily snap checking across Peshawar’s main access points.

Section 144 enforcement across Punjab Province

Separately, the Punjab Home Department has also extended the enforcement of Section 144 across the province for another seven days, citing heightened security concerns and the need to maintain public order. The restriction will now remain in place until Saturday, November 15.

Under the extended order, all kinds of protests, sit-ins, and similar public activities remain banned under the extension. The order also prohibits gatherings of four or more people in public places, the display of weapons, and the use of loudspeakers. Additionally, the publication and distribution of inflammatory or sectarian material are strictly forbidden.
