Snapchat down? Users report outages hitting Roblox and Fortnite too

Snapchat Down

WEB DESK: If anyone thinks that Snapchat is not popular anymore, they ought to think again because turns out the streak centred platform just went down globally along with Ring, Roblox, Fortnite and many others. Dubbed as a ‘major internet outage’, users across the world users were quick to take to other social media platforms to register their reactions.

Apps like Duolingo and Canva are also experiencing widespread outages, reportedly linked to problems at Amazon Web Services (AWS). The disruptions began around 8am UK time (midnight Pacific) and affected a range of services dependent on AWS infrastructure.

Amazon confirmed “increased error rates” and delays across multiple services on its status page. As the world’s largest cloud provider, AWS underpins much of the modern internet, meaning even minor issues can cause global disruptions. Other affected platforms included Ring, Wordle, Prime Video, Coinbase, Vodafone, and the UK tax authority HMRC.

According to a user in Pakistan, the snaps were not being sent to others. While, Hareem* who frequently uses Duolingo said that she could access previous stages or progress on the app.

Last week, many Snapchat users in Pakistan received a message asking them to buy a storage plan if they want to keep their photos and videos saved in “Memories” or backed up. The message appeared when users open the app, warning them that their media could be deleted unless they subscribe to the Rs300-per-month Snapchat+ plan. This move has caused anger and disappointment among long-time users who have been using the app for years to document their lives. For them, Snapchat has not just been a messaging app but a personal archive of memories.
