Earlier today, The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Information Technology demanded an explanation from Hafiz Rehman, Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), regarding the current nationwide social media disruption.

Chaired by Amin ul Haque, the committee has requested Rehman to clarify the reasons behind the interruption in social media services. The committee is seeking information on the widespread internet service outages and deteriorating mobile signals.

Users have been reporting slow internet speeds, particularly on mobile data, since last week. Some are experiencing difficulties accessing the full features of apps like WhatsApp, Instagram, and ‘X’. The internet disruption in the country has raised concerns about potential losses for digital businesses.
