Sohaib Maqsood’s stolen car recovered after nine months

WEB DESK: Former Pakistan cricketer Sohaib Maqsood has announced that his stolen car has finally been recovered and returned to him after a nine-month ordeal.

In a statement posted on social media, Maqsood expressed gratitude to Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for their intervention in the case.

“My car was returned to me after nine months, the truth always wins,” Maqsood wrote. “I thank Mohsin Naqvi and Maryam Nawaz for their support. Representatives of the Punjab Police and Punjab government have been in constant contact with me for the last three or four days.”

The recovery marks a major development in a case that has drawn widespread attention since the cricketer first went public with allegations of massive car fraud earlier this year.

BACKGROUND

In early 2025, Sohaib Maqsood alleged that he was the victim of a major scam involving a car showroom owner in Multan, claiming losses exceeding Rs14 million.

According to Maqsood, the showroom owner sold his luxury car without his consent despite the cricketer still holding the original documents. In exchange, Maqsood was given another vehicle with fake registration papers, and the individual allegedly extracted an additional Rs7 million from him.

He took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to appeal to Punjab authorities, urging them to take action against those involved in “playing with people’s hard-earned money.”

Months later, Maqsood said he had located his missing car in a house in Lahore, but the occupant refused to return it, claiming he had legally purchased it and warning that “even the police can’t take this car from this house.”

Expressing frustration at the time, Maqsood remarked that if a national athlete could face such helplessness, “one can only imagine what ordinary citizens go through.”

Following sustained social and media pressure, law enforcement agencies finally recovered the vehicle this week.
