Solar Panels prices surge ahead of Summer season

ISLAMABAD: As the summer season approaches, a surge in solar panels prices is leaving consumers feeling the heat.

Prices have skyrocketed by Rs75,000 to 300,000, impacting systems ranging from 7 to 15 kilowatts.

For instance, a 7-kilowatt setup now commands over Rs920,000, up from Rs850,000.

The escalation continues, with a 10-kilowatt system now costing Rs12.5 lakh instead of the previous Rs11 lakh.

Similarly, a 12-kilowatt system sees a bump to Rs16 lakh from Rs14 lakh, while a 15-kilowatt setup hits Rs18 lakh from Rs15 lakh.

This price hike primarily affects grid-connected systems, with additional charges for hybrid setups that include batteries. Consumers, largely participating in the federal government’s net metering project, are feeling the pinch.

The fluctuation in solar panel prices in Pakistan stems from economic factors and occasional political instability.

Brand, efficiency, capacity, and installation requirements also influence costs. Importantly, Pakistan’s reliance on Chinese imports and fluctuations in oil prices contribute to these dynamics.

Despite the price surge, demand for solar energy is on the rise, driven by escalating electricity tariffs. Solar panels offer long-term benefits, requiring minimal maintenance and providing relief from hefty electricity bills. Moreover, amidst economic challenges, solar energy emerges as a natural boon.

Beyond cost considerations, solar panels offer protection against voltage fluctuations, a common issue in certain regions during scorching summers.

The Pakistani government has actively undertaken numerous solar projects and initiatives to harness the country’s solar potential. Pakistan’s geographical location, characterized by abundant sunlight throughout the year, provides favorable conditions for effective solar power generation.

With temperatures soaring and voltage dropping, solar systems safeguard appliances and offer respite from escalating electricity expenses.
