KOLKATA: Donna Ganguly, the wife of former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly, has filed a case after facing online harassment.
According to Indian media reports, the renowned dancer contacted Kolkata police on Friday after being subjected to abusive comments and body shaming on social media.
In her complaint to the local police, she said that she faced online insults and derogatory remarks following her recent performance at the Kolkata Film Festival.
Donna stated that she has been associated with classical dance for nearly four and a half decades and has represented India globally.
However, offensive comments by some social media users not only damaged her dignity but also undermined her professional reputation, she added.
She also named a specific Facebook page where her performance photos were uploaded along with abusive and demeaning captions. The complaint said the page also made derogatory comments about her weight.
Donna provided screenshots of the posts and a mobile number as evidence to police.
Police have registered a case against unidentified individuals and initiated an investigation.
Police said that officials are working to trace the suspect using the submitted information, and are also examining the possibility of more people being involved.
