South Africa’s Faf du Plessis Joins HBL Pakistan Super League

LAHORE: In a significant development for Pakistani cricket fans, South African cricket star Faf du Plessis has announced his decision to join the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) for Season 11.

After a remarkable 14-year stint in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Faf du Plessis has chosen not to participate in this year’s IPL auction. Instead, he has embraced a fresh challenge by signing up to play in the PSL, one of the most competitive T20 leagues in the world.

“This year, I have decided to accept a new challenge and I want to play in PSL Season 11,” said du Plessis. “This is an exciting step for me. It is an opportunity to experience something new and grow as a player.”

The seasoned batsman also expressed his enthusiasm about discovering the PSL’s vibrant cricket culture firsthand. “I will get the chance to get to know a new league up close,” he added.

Faf du Plessis praised the PSL for its energy and talent, stating, “The Pakistan Super League is full of enthusiasm and talent, and I am looking forward to playing in front of Pakistan’s traditional hospitality and passionate fans.”

Cricket lovers across Pakistan eagerly await seeing the international star bring his experience and skill to the league. “See you all soon,” concluded du Plessis, signaling his excitement to take the field in Pakistan.

This signing is expected to add a new dimension to the PSL and further raise the profile of the league on the global cricketing map.

Earlier in the day, the PSL-incoming player resigned from the Indian Premier League (IPL), confirming that he won’t be putting up his name for the IPL auction this time, as he will instead be heading over to the PSL.

On the other hand, Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen has announced that he won;t be renewing his ownership of the PSL franchise.

In a tweet, Tareen said he was bidding farewell to the team he has owned for seven years.

He appeared to take a subtle dig at PSL management and differences that developed between him and other franchise owners, stating, “I would rather lose the team standing on my feet than run it from my knees.”

“Being part of this team has been one of the greatest honours of my life,” he said. “I love the fans, I love this team, and I absolutely love representing South Punjab — something my late uncle Alamgir Tareen was especially proud of.”
